GSHRM Walter L. Martin Memorial Scholarships Program

The Greenville Society for Human Resource Managemant (GSHRM ) provides scholarships
for dependent children of members of GSHRM . The official name of the scholarship is the Greenville Society for Human Resource Management Walter L. Martin Memorial Scholarship Program. The Center for Scholarship Administration, Inc. (CSA), an independent, non-profit organization, is administering the program for GSHRM .

This newsletter gives the eligibility requirements for this scholarship. If your child meets all the requirements and is interested in applying for the scholarship, please have them apply on-line at website www.scholarshipprograms.org.

Q & A FOR APPLICANTS OF THE GREENVILLE SOCIETY FOR HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT WALTER L. MARTIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Q: WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

A: Dependent children of members of GSHRM are eligible to apply. Dependent children include natural children, adopted children, or resident stepchildren. The qualifying parent must have been a member of GSHRM for a period of two (2) years.

Applicants must be high school seniors or undergraduate students already enrolled in any public or private, accredited, two-year or four-year college, university, or technical school. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale to be eligible for the scholarships.

Q: HOW DO I APPLY?

A: Students who meet all the eligibility requirements listed above should complete an on-line application at website scholarshipprograms.org   After completing the on-line application the student will be instructed to submit a Transcript, Letter of Recommendation, and Essay to the GSHRM Scholarship Program no later than the end of February.

Q: HOW ARE WINNERS SELECTED?

A: An independent scholarship selection committee reviews the applications and selects the winners. All decisions of the selection committee are final. The following factors are considered:

Academic achievement, extracurricular activities in school, and community involvement will be considered when making the awards. Financial need is not a consideration. Awards are based on information received from the applicants and high school/college no later than the end of February.

Q: WHAT IS THE AMOUNT OF THE AWARD?

 A: The Greenville Society for Human Resource Management will award two scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each. The GSHRM Scholarships are Non-Renewable. The awards are for one year only.

Q: WHAT DOES THE AWARD COVER?

A: The GSHRM Walter L. Martin Memorial Scholarship will be applied to the cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board. One-half of the award amount will be applied to each semester or one-third to each quarter. Checks will be made payable to and mailed directly to the college.

Q: WHAT ARE MY RESPONSIBLITIES IF I WIN?

A: The Scholarship Recipient must: Enter any public or private, accredited two-year or four-year college, university or technical school, located in the United States, in the fall term following selection of the award. Submit an official transcript each semester or quarter to the Scholarship Director.

Professional Development Scholarships

Two scholarships for attendance at SC SHRM Meeting (basic registration and room only).

Eligibility: Annual drawing based on attendance at monthly meetings

One chance per meeting attended.
Beginning in 2006, A Member must attend at least 60% of meetings held between January and December of the prior year
The prior year attendance will determine the eligibility for the next year's conference.
Active Board members are not eligible.

One scholarship for attendance at National SHRM Conference (basic registration and room only)

Eligibility: Annual drawing based on attendance at monthly meetings

One chance per meeting attended.
A Member must attend at least 60% of meetings held between January and December of the prior year. The prior year attendance will determine the eligibility for the next year's conference.
Active Board members are not eligible.

Reimburse cost of PHR or SPHR certification exam (up to 10 in calendar year)

Eligibility: Reimbursement will occur after certification is received

Active GSHRM  member.
Reimbursement will be granted to first 10 requested in a calendar year.
Request can be made only once certification is received
There is no other reimbursement from other sources
